Physics 2216 Laboratory Equipment List
Lab 24: Atomic Spectra - NOT YET COMPATIBLE W/ NEW EQUIPMENT

Equipment List:

  1. Vernier optics/dynamics track (A7.2)
  2. Two Vernier component carriers (D7.1)
  3. Metal screen with slit (D1.3) holding a meter stick (A1)
  4. Framed diffraction grating (D1.3) in a Cenco lens holder (D1.3)
  5. Spectral discharge power supply (D1.1)
  6. Hydrogen discharge tube (D1.1)
  7. Wooden lifts (2) for optics track (D1.4)
  8. Laser (D1.2) (one for every two stations) with:
    • Small metric ruler (D5.1)
    • Projection screen for measuring diffraction pattern (D1.3)
    • Wooden block for height (D1.4)
General Class use :
  1. Winsco spectroscope with mounted light source (one per room) (D1.4)
  2. Variac (D1.4)
  3. Spectrum chart for atomic spectra. (on the wall already)

Notes and tests:

  1. Set up the initial configuration for measuring the pattern produced by the laser
    through the diffraction grating.
  2. Test that all the discharge tubes produce light.
  3. Test that all the lasers work
  4. Darken the rooms, and turn on the low-lighting lights via dial on the wall.
