RMS pulley system consist of the following parts: Rotary Motion Sensor (RMS), 90 cm rod
(A1), Large universal clamp (C20.4), Smart pulley on 15 cm rod (C10.2), 2-90 degree clamps (C10.2). The system is used in several labs (3, 5, 6) and is set the same way in all of them.
- The RMS Pulley system should be mounted on the right side of the table.
- Start by clamping the large universal clamp to the table. The large universal clamp should be rotated so that the falling mass hanger doesn’t collide with it. The set screw should be down. The top screw needs to be removed and stored in the bin in (C20.4).
- Insert the 90 cm rod vertically into the large uniersal clamp and tighten it down. Place the two 90 degree clamp on the rod as shown to the right. The bottom clamp secures the right side of the track and the top clamp holds the smart pulley to the 90 cm rod. Insert the smart pulley's rod into the upper clamp so it is in the middle of the track, and tighten it so that is pulls the string level with the hook on the cart.
- The RMS pulley should be mounted on the "Pasco" side of the RMS (see the photo on the right). The RMS pulley should face the back of the table.
- The 2.5 meter long string is attached to the hook on the cart, feed under the smart pulley and up and over the RMS pulley. The string should be placed on the largest RMS pulley even though one of the pictures shows otherwise. Placing the 50g mass hanger on the end of the string will maintain tension in the string and make it easier to keep the string on the pulleys.
