Physics 2305 Laboratory Equipment List    
Lab 4: Projectile Motion

 

Transition notes:

  1. The track can be left out and pushed to the back of the table to be used in lab 5. Clamp side with the small universal clamp to the back straight part of the table.
  2. The RMS pulley system can be moved to the back side of the table to be used in lab 5. Remove clamp from the track and move the large universal clamp to the back straight part of the table still completely together. (when on-sequence there won't be enough large universal clamps for this, so you'll need to take the small clamp from the other side of the track and transplant the complete pulley system into it. The large clamp will need to be used for this lab.)
  3. Put away the dynamic cart and force probe (C1.2).
  4. Put away 5N spring scale (C10.3) and rubber bands (TA1).

  1. Pasco 750 Lab interface with the following sensors:
    • 2-Digital photogate timers (C4.2) with cables (C4.H)
      (one closest to the launcher DG1, Farthest DG2)
    • 1-Time of flight pad (DG3) (C4.2)
  2. Pasco mini-launcher (C4.1, C4.2)
  3. Cocking rod (C4.2)
  4. 2-16mm steel balls (C4.2)
  5. C-clamp (A2.4)
  6. 2 meter stick (A1)
  7. Carbon paper (C4.4) + stack of plain white paper (103B)
  8. 2 pair Safety goggles (C4.3)
  9. Large plastic bin as a catch box (A10) mounted on table with large universal clamp. (C20.4)

General Class use and spares:

  1. 16-mm Steel balls (10 per quadrant) (TA2)
  2. Box of carbon paper (TA1)

Notes and tests:

  1. Attach launcher bracket with C-clamp on the corner of the left side of the table with the bracket hanging over the edge as much as possible. Arrange the launcher so that it aims at the bucket and can be at an angle of 20 without hitting the table
  2. Align the launcher so that it will fire down a line across the middle of the table.   2-meter stick should be laid along this line.
  3. Check daily for missing balls, safety goggles, and cocking rods.
  4. Start the test file “2305_Lab04_Projectile_test1.ds”. Fire the ball making sure the first photogate starts the time and the second stops it. Make sur ethe trajectory was good and the time recorded is resonably short.
  5. Start the test file “2305_Lab04_Projectile_test2.ds”. Fire the ball making sure the first photogate starts the time and the time of flight pad stops it. Make sure the time is reasonable.
  6. The most common problem is that the cables to the photogate are switched.
  7. Note the hole in the bracket that the launcher is bolted into.
  8. Mount the large plastic bin with a large universal clamp at the end of the table.  
    Line it with bubble wrap to stop the balls
