Revised 07/23/2008
Physics 2305 Laboratory Equipment List
Lab 5: RTP 5 - Force, Mass, and Acceleration

Transition notes:

  1. All the projectile motion equipment (C4) needs to be removed.
  2. The track and RMS pulley system need to be returned to the position used in Lab 3.
  3. If on-sequence remember to leave out the large universal clamp used on the catch box, and reurn the pulley system to the large clamp.

Equipment List:

  1. Pasco 750 Lab interface with the following sensors:
  2. Pasco 2.2 m track (T2) (elevation clamp on 45 cm rod (A1), small Universal clamp (C20.4) to table)
  3. RMS pulley system: (See the set up notes for instructions on how to assemble this system.)
    • Pasco RMS
    • 90 cm rod (A1)
    • Large universal clamp (C20.4)
    • Smart pulley on 15 cm rod (C10.2)
    • 2 Right angle clamps (C10.3)
    • String with loops (approximately 2.5 meters long before the loops are tied in the ends, Izorline) (A1)
  4. Cart masses (C10.1)
    • 2-full blocks (approximately 500 g)
    • 2-half blocks (approximately 250 g)
    • 2-brass posts to hold masses on cart. (A13)
  5. Mass set (1-10, 2-20, 2-50,1-100,2-200,1-500 gram) (C10.1)
  6. 50g mass holder (C10.2)
  7. 5g mass holder (C10.2)
  8. Electronic balance (A3.3) (attached to lab table shelf)

Notes and tests:

  1. Start “2305_Lab5_RTP5_test1.ds”.   Spin the Rotary Motion Sensor and push and the force probe.   It should register on the graph.
  2. Elevation clamp is not needed, but there is no need to remove it.
  3. The track and RMS pulley system are set up in exactly the same way as in Lab 3.
  4. No friction pads are used in this lab.
