Physics 2305 Laboratory Equipment List
Lab 10: Rotational Motion

Transition notes:

  1. The track and all the materials from lab 9 need to be put away.
  2. The mass set and 50 gram hanger should be left out.

Equipment list:

  1. Pasco 750 Lab interface with the following sensors:
    • RMS (yellow DG1, black DG2) (C3.1)
  2. Pasco Rotational platform (C7.1)
    • “A” base with RMS attached. See the instructions on how to assemble this.
    • Smart pulley on 15 cm rod.
    • Black pulley support.
    • Aluminum Rotational platform.
    • 1-300 gram mass with thumb screw and square nut.
    • Large disk
    • Large hoop
  3. String attached to the shaft pulley with a loop tied in the other end (about 1.1 meters).
See instructions on how to tie this string to the shaft pulley.
  4. Mass set (1-10, 2-20, 2-50,1-100,2-200,1-500 gram) (C10.1)
  5. 50 gram mass holder (C10.2)
  6. 2-C-clamps (A2.4)
  7. Vernier caliper (C9.4)
  8. Small metric ruler (C10.2)

General Class use:

  1. 2000 gram electronic balance (A2.3) at TA station (one per quadrant).

Notes and Tests:

  1. Start the test file “2305_Lab10_Rot_test1.ds”.   Spin the rotational platform. The rotation should register on the graph.
  2. Level all the platforms with a bubble level before it is clamped to the table.
