Lab 2: Sound

Transition notes:

  1. The small universal clamp and 2-meter stick from Lab 1 is used in Lab 2.
All other equipment from Lab 1 is to be put away.

Equipment List:

  1. Pasco 750 Lab interface with the following sensors:
    • Pasco sound sensor (microphone) (Analog B) (C22.3) and 8 pin DIN cable (C30.H)
      on a 15 cm threaded rod (C10.2)
    • Temperature probe (Analog C) (C10.H)
  2. Set of tuning forks and rubber mallet (C22.3)
    • 256 Hz (middle C on a physical pitch scale)
    • 288 Hz (D)
    • 320 Hz (E)
    • 341.3 Hz (F)
    • 384 Hz (G)
    • 426.7 Hz (A)
    • 480 Hz (B)
    • 512 Hz (C one octave higher than the lower frequency C)
  3. Telescoping sound tubes with end caps
  4. Small universal clamp (C20.4).
  5. 2-Meter stick (A1)

Notes and tests:

  1. Put the sound sensor on the side closest to the lab interface for easy plug-in.
  2. Load the test file “2306_Lab2_Sound_test1.ds”.
  3. Make a sound into the microphone and see if it registers on the display.
  4. Check that the temperature probe reads room temperature (about 20-24 degrees C).
  5. Make sure all screws and endcaps are in place on the sound tubes.
