Physics 2306 Laboratory Equipment List
Lab 7: AC Circuits 1

Transition notes: Most of the equipment from Lab 6 is used in Lab 7.
See the notes below for changes.

  1. The Pasco interface and sensors are not used. All the sensors should be put away.
  2. Switch the component bags.
  3. Put out the BNC cables.
  4. Place the power supply from the lab table back on the shelf.
  5. Remove batteries from board to be tested later.

Equipment List:

  1. Pasco EM-8656 AC/DC Electronics Laboratory (C26.1)
  2. BK Precision 1670A Adjustable Power Supply
  3. Components (in Ziploc bag) (C26.2)
    • Resistors: 1-10Ω, 1-560Ω, 1-100kΩ
    • Capacitors: 1-1μF, 2-10μF,1-100μF
  4. Jumper wires (in Ziploc bag) (C26.2)
    • About seven 10 cm long wires
    • About six 25 cm long wire
  5. Tektronix TDS 1002 Oscilloscope
  6. BK Precision 4017A Function Generator
    • 1-BNC tee (attached to the output of the function generator.)
    • 1-BNC – BNC cable (C26.H)
    • 1-BNC – Banana plug cable (C28.H)
    • 1-BNC – Alligator clip cable (C27.H)
  7. 1-Manual Range Digital Multimeter (DMM) with capacitance measure (C26.3) with black (C23.H) and red (C24.H) test leads.
  8. Banana plug cables
    • 3-red (C21.H)
    • 3-black (C22.H)
    • Four red and four black banana plug to alligator clip adapters (B2.3)
  9. Knife switch (single pole, double throw) (C27.1)

Notes and tests:

  1. Check that each station has the proper equipment from Lab 6. Straighten all the equipment.
  2. Check everything is in the components bags including one extra of each item. Put extras in TA cabinet.
  3. Make sure the voltage is set all the way down and the current is at the 9 O'clock position on all power supplies.
  4. Turn on the oscilloscope and check that the "OpenChoice" software can read data from the oscilloscopes.
