Welcome to our site! This interdisciplinary collaboration between visual art and physics faculty and students merges two schools of thought into one innovative display of gallery installations about string theory. I wanted to create an experience for my students where they discover the commonalities between science and art. In Fiber Arts, students use fibers and craft techniques such as crocheting, knitting and weaving to explore the tension between craft and fine art. The works created for this exhibition were inspired by a guest lecture on string theory & quantum physics by Professor Djordje Minic, who is also an art enthusiast. Students used various types of “string” (yarn, fishing line, rebar ty wire, beads) to create artwork reflecting string theory concepts involving space and time.  We enjoyed this collaboration and look forward to other “cross pollinations” of ideas, thoughts and technologies in the future.
