Computer Clusters
Thunderbird | Tempest

The Physics Department owns and operates the following computer clusters. Both were constructed and are maintained by our computer wizard Roger Link.


Thunderbird Computer Cluster Thunderbird

Consists of 137 1U Dell PowerEdge servers yielding 676 cores. 31 of the servers are Dell SC1435 dual quad-core AMD opetrons with 8G RAM each, and 106 of the servers are Dell SC1425 dual hyper-threaded Intel Xeons with 1G RAM each. Thunderbird is used in a variety of physics research projects.


Tempest Computer Cluster Tempest

Consists of 28 Dell SC1425 dual hyper-threaded Intel Xeons, each with 1G RAM, yielding 112 cores. Tempest is primarily for student computing research.
