Prof. Nahum Arav and a senior researcher in his group, Dr. Manuel Bautista, received approval of their Hubble Space Telescope (HST) proposals.
Prof. Arav received a total of two and a half days of observing time on the telescope to measure chemical abundances around black holes situated about a billion light years away from us. A grant of $120,000-$150,000 will accompany this program.
Dr. Bautista received $80,000 of funding to create spectral models of singly-ionized iron-peak species for HST science.
The prestigious HST program is very competitive, with an over subscription rate of about seven.
