Physics 2215 Laboratory Equipment List
Lab 6: Force and Acceleration

Equipment List:

  1. LabPro interface
    • Vernier Motion Detector 2 (D5.1) (DIG/SONIC 1) with:
    • Vernier Force sensor (ANALOG CH1) (D5.4)
  2. Vernier Dynamics Cart (D5.2) with:
    • Three 500g cart masses mounted with mounting hardware (A2.6)
  3. Cart track (A7.2) with:
  4. 50 gram mass hanger (A3.5)
  5. Hanging mass set ( 2-10 g, 2-20 g, 2-50 g, 1-100 g, 2-200 g) (A2.5)

General class use:

  1. Laboratory balance (2000 gram capacity) on TA table.

Notes and tests:

  1. Level the Track.
  2. The force probe needs to be attached to the very front of the cart with its mounting hardware. The cart masses must be removed to install the force probe. Tighten the 1/4"-20 set screw in the back of the force probe firmly against the mounting rod. Then fit the masses closely to the force probe.
  3. Start the Logger Pro file "Lab 6_new.cmbl" in the Lab 6 folder of Class Notes. Click "Collect" and Push and pull the force sensor hook. As the cart moves back and forth check that the force and position data is recorded on the graphs.
