Physics 2216 Laboratory Equipment List
Lab 13: Heat Transfer & Phase Transitions

Transition notes:

  1. All of the equipment that is used in lab 13 will be used in Lab 14.
Only the hot water pot, brass cylinder, and tongs need to be added.
  2. Refill the ice, deionized water, and paper towels.

Equipment List:

  1. LabPro interface
    • 2 Temperature Probes (ANALOG CH1, CH2) (D8.H)
    • Heat Pulser (DIG/SONIC 1) (D8.2)
  2. Immersion Heater (~200W) (D8.2)
  3. Large foam cups, plastic coffee stirrers (D8.3)
  4. Tongs (D8.3)
  5. Brass cylinder with hole for temperature probe (D8.3)

General Class Use:

Notes and tests:

  1. Make sure at each station you put a labeled probe in Ch.1 and an unlabled probe in Ch.2.
  2. Open the file "Lab13a.xmbl" in the Class Notes/2216 Setup files/Lab 13 folder. Check that the temperature probes read data.
  3. Open the file "Lab13b.xmbl" in the Class Notes/2216 Setup files/Lab 13 folder. In the program create one pulse with the heat pulser and make sure the immersion heater heats up.
  4. Fill the hot water pots with tap water. Don't turn them on until an hour or two before the lab starts.
