Transition notes:
- All of the materials from Lab 7 need to be put away except 2 of each color banana plug cables and two of each color adapters.
Equipment List:
- Pasco 750 Lab interface with the following sensors:
- Pasco Magnetic Field sensor (Analog A) (C28.1)
- Pasco Power Amplifier (Analog B)
- 2 cylindrical permanent magnets (C28.2)
- 3-Small compasses (C28.2)
- Various materials to test their magnetic properties (C28.1)
- Aluminum cylinder with hook
- Wooden cylinder with hook
- Black Plastic cylinder with hook
- Brass cylinder with hook
- Iron cylinder
- Steel paper clip
- Plastic pivoting stands for holding magnets (C28.1)
- Banana plug cables
- Solenoid wire-1.5 meter long piece of stranded 22 GA wire (C29.H).
- Primary/secondary coils (large diameter coil only). (C28.4)
- BK Precision 1670A Adjustable Power Supply
- Variable Gap Magnet ( Pasco EM-8641) (C28.3)
- Two "trapeze" loops of wire (small and large) (C28.2) mounted on a pendulum clamp (C10.3) on 45 cm rod (A1) on “A” base (C20.1).
See the set up notes for this equipment.
- Magnetic field board (C28.4)
General Lab use:
- E/M Apparatus (1 per quadrant) (Model SF-9585 power supply only is needed.)
See the set up notes for this equipment.
Notes and tests:
- Thoroughly test the polarization of all bar magnets and compasses.
- Test that the permanent magnets are oriented correctly. (side with Pasco label is South)
- Hook the power amp to the solenoid and use the test file "2306_Lab8_Magnetism1_ test.ds" to test the magnetic field sensor and the power amp simultaneously.
- You cannot see the paper clip in the picture, but it is in fact needed.
