E03: Distributions of Electric Charge

Purpose: To demonstrate electrostatic effects qualitatively and quantitaively.

Description:

Show that the charge is uniformly distributed on a conductive sphere but not on an irregularly shaped conductive object.

Show how charges can be shared between two conductive spheres.

Show how charge can be transfered by an conductor but not by an insulator that connects two conductive spheres.

Equipment List: Storage Location: CHEMP 130A

Electrostatic voltage source with cables C2.4
  Electrometer with cables, C2.4
Charge Producers, Proof plane, Faraday Ice Pail C2.3
Irregular shaped metal object on insulting stand C2.1
