E61: Faraday's Law - Computer |
Purpose: To qualitatively demonstrate that a time-varying magnetic flux induces an emf in a coil. |
Description: Coil, bar magnet, voltage sensor on Pasco 750 Interface |
Plug the voltage sensor into Analog A of the interface, and attach the probes to the posts of the large coil. Open the file "E61.ds" from the location S:\Demonstration files\Electricity & Magnetism. Data studio will open, and the computer can now plot the induced voltage after hitting the start button. Observe the voltage as the magnet is (1) inserted into the coil, (2) held at rest in the coil, and (3) withdrawn from the coil. Another option is to use the small coil hooked up to a Power Amplifier (I2.2) instead of the bar magnet. |
