Virginia Tech Update for Tracking Group, December 1, 2005

Collimator working group

A draft version of the primary collimator technical report is finished.

Beamline Design

Beamline design: Work continues on the beamline design involving one or two tungsten plugs. We are mainly focussing on photon rates at the region 1 and 2 chambers. With no shielding around the beampipe, the rates are not tolerable. Initially, when we put in lead shielding around the beampipe, the rates appear to go up. We will try to give a more detailed quantititive report at the next meeting; giving out numbers at the moment would likely only confuse the issue.

Drift Chamber Update

Drift chamber update:

1. VME DAQ: We are returning our VME controller to the vendor (Struck) for replacement of a chip; there is a particular chip that they have had a high failure rate on. Unfortunately, it is one we can't replace ourself.

2. Second prototype: The shop needed to have repairs done to the computerized milling machine before they could start on our second prototype. They should be starting soon.

3. Wire position measuring device: the wire position sensing device using a digital height gauge and CCD camera has been assembled and tested. The digital height gauge has a readout accuracy of 10 microns.
