Virginia Tech Update for Tracking Group, July 15, 2004

Chambers Update:

the shop is finishing up some ertalyte frames

we've decided to build the prototypes with 6.11 mm pitch, alternating field and sense wires

we visited UVA last week and it was very helpful - we have pictures!

Minitorus Update:

More results for the mean Q2 and rate for lower beam
energies (Table 1). The minitorus was off for each of
these cases. Please note that there are sensitivities
to cuts for the rate and Q2 calculations.

Table 1

These plots are for a .5 cm primary collimator shift.

The top two plots show that the lowest part of the
ep peak at the entrance to the main magnet is in the
same place (1) as the original primary collimator and
minitorus off (2).

The middle plot (3)shows that the ep peak at the
cerenkov bar location has shifted downward, but we
can adjust the main torus field to correct for this.

The bottom two plots compare the focus at the cerenkov
bar location for the .5 cm shifted collimator and
minitorus (4) and the original collimator with
no minitorus (5).

These plots are for adjusting the main torus field factor
to 1.035 in order to put the ep peak in the same position
at detector 14 for the 1 cm shifted primary collimator.
Note that in the mean position plot (6) you can't see
the triangles because the squares are on top of them!

The bottom two plots compare the focus at the cerenkov
bar location for the .5 cm shifted collimator and
minitorus (7) and the original collimator with
no minitorus (8).

Future plans:

we are planning to use the .5 cm shifted primary collimator

we'll check that there is no scraping with minitorus on and off

adjust the main torus field strength to put the ep peak in the
"standard" position at cerenkov bar location

we're preparing to "give up" the minitorus code

we need to investigate beam blowup at the beam dump
