Virginia Tech Update for Tracking Group, July 29, 2004

Chambers Update:

100 micron field wire has been ordered; we already have the 20 micron sense wire in house.

Parts for initial one plane prototype are still being worked on in the shop.

Minitorus Update:

We can run with minitorus on or off for the .6 cm shifted primary
and have the ep peak in same place at cerenkov bar location

Both Neven and Jim have seen the plans for 0.6 cm primary collimator
shift, and neither one expressed serious concern.

the Q2 and mean theta plots do look the same

We have the location of the main magnet support bar; clearances are:

       i) original collimator with no mini-torus - 6 cm

ii) new collimator with mini-torus on - 6 cm

The minitorus field at the center of the beamline is less than 10-6 kG at 2 cm
so beam blowup because of the minitorus is expected to be negligible

ep peak at same spot (left) and focus the same (right)

original primary, MFIL = 0 (green)
primary shifted, MFIL = 0 (black)
primary shifted, MFIL = 59d (red)

mean scattering angle and Q^2 plot; top row is for original primary collimator, minitorus off; bottom row is for shifted primary collimator, minitorus on

trapezoidal ep peak profile

left is for original collimator, minitorus off
right is for .6 cm shifted collimator, minitorus on

Future plans:

Working on concept of aluminum support structure for mini-torus to be put into SolidWorks

Working on generating "theoretical" resolution plots from Garfield for a couple different
chamber geometries (thanks to Klaus Grimm for help)
