It appears that in order to have a sufficiently high enough FOM determined by a defining collimator upstream of the QTOR, that defining collimator also allows in an unacceptably high fraction of inelastic electrons. The only way to get rid of the inelastic electrons without reducing any elastic electrons is to eliminate the inelastic electrons after they have been separated from the elastic electrons by the QTOR. I think I mentioned this at the beginning of the phone call. This WILL be done by the shielding hut if we design the apertures carefully. Yongguang has done some work with this and he could do more. We know we will need a shielding hut and I think we should see what we can gain from using clever apertures before exploring sculpted detectors.
