Dan Kabat, Local bulk physics in AdS/CFT

Quasi-local physics in the bulk of anti-de Sitter space should be encoded in a non-local way in the boundary CFT. I'll review the representation of quasi-local bulk observables in terms of non-local operators in the CFT. In particular I'll show that a bulk operator can be represented as an operator in the CFT with support on a finite disc on the complexified boundary. This representation provides a new perspective on bulk locality and the way in which it breaks down at finite Planck length. I'll use these operators to recover the holographic entropy bound and to discuss the singularity of the BTZ black hole.
