The Department of Physics at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of experimental nuclear physics. The initial appointment, for a period up to five years, will be in partnership with the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) through the bridge program. This appointment carries release time of 50% (teaching/service) for up to the first five years in order to expedite research efforts at Virginia Tech and Jefferson Lab. We are seeking an individual with a primary interest in the physics program of hadronic and nuclear physics conducted at Jefferson Lab and potentially in the future at the proposed Electron Ion Collider. The successful individual will be expected to build a strong research program that will enhance the current programs at Virginia Tech and Jefferson Lab. Work will be performed both at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA and at JLab in Newport News, VA and it will require occasional travel to attend conferences and meetings.   

The Virginia Tech Physics department has existing experimental research strengths in nucleon structure physics, weak interaction physics, neutrino physics, and heavy-flavor physics.

As part of plans to build on existing strengths, expand in the field of quantum information science, and align with state-wide investments in data sciences and cybersecurity, the College of Science at Virginia Tech (http://www.science.vt.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Theoretical Quantum Information Science at any rank (assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor). Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, quantum information theory, quantum error correction, quantum algorithms, quantum control, quantum sensing, the interface of quantum information and many-body theory, holography in quantum information, quantum networks, theory of entanglement, adiabatic quantum computation, and topological quantum computation.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous and externally well-funded research program, to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to actively participate in department, college, and university governance. The successful candidate will become a faculty member either in the Mathematics or Physics department. Joint appointments between the two departments will also be considered, as appropriate.
