Ladies of Robeson

Dean Sally Morton
Conversation on women in science with Dean Sally Morton, College of Science, 2019.

Founded in 2002, the Ladies of Robeson (LOR) is a social network of our female students, faculty, and staff.  The group supports incoming female students by removing barriers between faculty and students and creates close interactions between undergraduate and graduate female students.

The LOR award was established in 2019 through a gift by alumna Dr. Annalisa Pawlosky and Google.  Dr. Pawlosky, a former active member of LOR, received her Bachelor of Science in Physics from Virginia Tech in 2006 and her PhD from MIT in the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology program in 2014. She was a Stanford Molecular Imaging Scholar postdoctoral fellow. Currently at Google, she is the founder and principal investigator for the accelerated science biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory.

Each year, two awards are given- one to a female undergraduate student who will pursue a graduate program, and one to a female graduate student who will pursue a post-doctoral position, outside of Virginia Tech. Graduate students with a first-author publication and undergraduates who have co-authored a paper are also eligible for this award.
