Physics Force Add Request
PLEASE READ:
The Force-Add window for Fall 2026 will be:
April 24th through May 8th
August 3rd - 28th
Note that the force-add window close at NOON on the day listed above. This gives our staff the time to process any last-minute requests.
This form is the only method to request a force-add for a Physics Department course. Please do NOT contact the Physics Department in addition to completing the survey. We will reach out via email if we have any questions or concerns. Be aware, this is a request, and while we will do our best to accommodate everyone, we cannot guarantee any specific outcome.
The Physics Department is unable to force-add for convenience. You will be placed in any CRN that is compatible with your schedule.
Please note that we do not automatically email students the result of their course request; it is the student's responsibility to keep track of their schedule. We will only email the student if we require more information regarding a request. If you are denied a force add request, you may reapply if/when your individual reason(s) for denial are fixed.
A few additional notes:
- Force-add requests are processed in the order they are received.
- The following scenarios are some common reasons why students are denied force-add requests:
- The student has any holds on their account.
- The course will put the student over their allowed credit limit for the semester (typically over 19 credits). Note: PHYS 2305 and 2306 are 4 credit courses.
- The student is trying to force-add a major-restricted course.
- The student is currently enrolled in a section and are requesting a different CRN.
- The student has previously requested a force-add and subsequently dropped the course.
- The student does not meet the prerequisites for the course without supporting documentation.
- The course is full. Seniors who require a NON LAB section for graduation may be considered.
- Prerequisites are not waived on a case-by-case basis. If a course has a prerequisite you must complete it before enrolling in a class.
- Being registered at another university is not proof of a prerequisite.
- A final grade from another university is proof of a prerequisite.
If you have any questions, please email ugphysadvising-g@vt.edu with the subject line "Force-Add Question" and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
